I've started lion dancing voluntarily for the church community since 2012. As a child, I watched a lot of lion dancing because it was our culture. I had a wish that one day I would become a lion dancer when I grew up. The opportunity came when I moved to the U.S in 2007. At the beginning, it was really hard to adapt into the new environment but the church community had reached out to me and tried to get me involved. Even though that particular group of dancers was not very good, they got me started my lion dancing dream. At first, I just watched videos from youtube and practiced all the moves, skills and other technqiues; I performed on Vietnamese holidays such as Moon's festival, New year, etc.
And then, I had the opportunity to join White Lotus Lion Dance team; they really welcomed me with open arms and taught me everything that they know. Ever since being a member of The White Lotus Lion and Dragon Dance, I've learned a lot more than just performing skills and moves. It was all about following the lion dance tradition and techniques. At practices, we try to push each other past our limits, helping to improve on techniques day after day and building the strong chemistry and bond between members. Overall, it is my pleasure to be part of this well-organized team and I'm looking forward to many achievements in coming years.
